Community Hope, Inc. Mission Statement
Mission Statement of Community Hope, Inc.

Community Hope, Incorporated is dedicated to transferring technology to the Maasai people in Kenya.  Our  emphasis is to help them with improved methods of agriculture in the Maasai villages.  An equally important part of the technology transfer is to teach skills that will lead to employment in cottage industries.

The Maasai Project Plan

Farming:
Forty hectares (100 acres) have been given to Community Hope, Inc. to develop into a hands-on demonstration farm.  The acreage is in the south central part of Kenya in a dry-land area with a river that flows year round.  Drip  irrigation will be required to raise crops for the local village of Narosura.  Fruits and vegetables will be grown using the sustainable farming methods.  Some of the produce will be taken to the market in Narok.  A small dairy has been started by the Maasai.

Skilled Trades:
Teaching the skilled trades will result in raising the level of employment in the area.

The Maasai farmers that we are working with raise sheep that are grown for their fine wool.  Presently they sell the raw wool at  the market for a low price.  They see the need to learn how to process the wool into a finished product.

Learning to process the raw wool  will have two benefits.  It will add value to the wool and will employ the Maasai  workers.  A secondary benefit will be the manufacture of  carding machines, spinning wheels and looms that are made of wood.

The need for wood products to be made will require training in wood working skills.  This will expand to making fine furniture for export to markets in the cities.

You can have a part of this project with your financial support.

In the above picture are students at their school which is located in a dry region in southern Kenya.  Many have walked as much as eight miles to get to  their school.  The long daily walk to school is evidence that there is no lack of desire for education.

For most of these students their education will probably end here.  There is a need for a vocational school to teach practical trades that will  provide opportunities for cottage industries in their own villages.

Establishing a vocational trade school for the Maasai people is the goal that Community Hope, Inc. is working to establish in south central Kenya in the Maasai land.

Your help will provide much needed vocational training for these and other students in the Maasai Land.

Community Hope, Inc. is an all volunteer organization working with the Maasai people.
